Aerial Filming with Drones: Permits, Equipment and Planning
How do permits work for your aerial shoot, how is weather planned, what determines the price? What you need to know.
A drone (UAV - unmanned aerial vehicle) is the fastest and safest way to get cinematic aerial footage without the cost of a helicopter. From factory promos to construction progress tracking, hotel and real estate shoots to film sets, it adds a whole new dimension to production.
The permit process
Drone flights in Türkiye are regulated: the pilot must be certified, the aircraft registered, and permits obtained according to the area being flown. Residential areas, airport perimeters and some public zones are restricted. One of the biggest advantages of working with a professional production company is having this process managed on your behalf.
Site scouting and the flight plan
Before every aerial shoot we inspect the area: the flight route, take-off and landing points, safety measures and shot angles are planned. A set visited without scouting loses time and creates safety risk.
Weather conditions
Wind speed and rain affect both flight safety and image stability. Keeping a backup day in the schedule is essential, especially in coastal regions (windy cities like Izmir).
What determines the price?
- Shooting duration and the number of locations
- The scope of the permit process
- Editing and grading needs for the footage
- Special requests such as a live aerial feed
