Multi-Camera Live Streaming: An End-to-End Guide for Your Event
You are going to stream a concert, a conference or a sports event. How is the vision mixer set up, how is the internet planned, what should you watch for?
Live streaming is the real-time transmission of events such as concerts, conferences, performances, sports competitions and festivals over the internet or satellite. Its most critical property is this: a mistake cannot be retaken. That is why live broadcast is a job for an experienced crew as much as the right equipment.
How is the vision mixer set up?
In a multi-camera broadcast, all feeds meet at a vision mixing desk; the director selects which camera is live at any moment. A wide shot for the stage, a close-up for the speaker and a roaming camera for the atmosphere is the typical three-camera setup. A jib and slider add variety, and a drone adds the aerial feed.
Internet infrastructure: the invisible hero
Broadcast quality is more often determined by the internet line than the camera. A speed test must be run at the venue beforehand; a wired line should be used where possible, and redundancy built with independent mobile links. We always work with at least one backup link on every broadcast.
Choosing the platform
YouTube is ideal for long events and a permanent archive, Instagram and Facebook for instant reach, Zoom for corporate meetings with participation. Simultaneous streaming from one mixer to multiple platforms is also possible.
After the broadcast
We record the stream to disk simultaneously and deliver it raw or edited after the event. From one production you get both live reach and permanent content.
See our live streaming service for your event, or send us your date; we will plan the equipment and the broadcast together.
